I believe it is required in the blogging world to dedicate at least one post in November to the things for which you are thankful. I was inspired by The Salty Mamas to write up a list.
I am obviously thankful for my husband, our children, our families, our house, yadda yadda. That is baseline thankfulness year round. There are a few things, though, that really deserve a shout out.
.) I am thankful there was no social media when I was in junior high or high school. We had AOL Instant Messenger, and had started Myspace profiles, but there was not the constant posting of every opinion, every silly thing, every awkward moment. I am so, so grateful that my long awkward stage was only captured on film, not the internet. I’m thankful that years have passed since then and hopefully the awkward things we all said and did are being slowly forgotten.
.) I am thankful for social media at this point in my life. My husband and I have a lot of aunts, uncles, and cousins spread out all over the country. Facebook and Instagram have helped us (well, me, because he only gets on Facebook if he gets tagged in something) stay connected and up to date on our family and friends. Our grandparents look forward to seeing pictures of the kids, so I over post so that they can share in Little Buddy’s messy breakfast and Roo’s dance class.
.) I am thankful for the plastic to-go cups for kids meals. They all stack nicely, have exactly three parts that can all go in the dishwasher, and if I take it somewhere and forget it, it is NO BIG DEAL.
.) I am thankful for popcorn shrimp. They look enough like chicken nuggets that we call them shrimp nuggets and my daughter will eat them. She thinks she’s eating a form of chicken nuggets, and I’m happy because she is eating another meat besides chicken.
.)I am thankful for the times the husband rounds up all the trash in the house and takes it out before he leaves for a trip. It is SUPER annoying to have to take multiple trips outside to the garbage can while figuring out how to position the kids so they don’t hurt anything or each other for the 30 seconds I’m outside.
.) I am thankful for my daughter’s strong will. It may try my patience sometimes, but I know it will serve her well as she gets older.
.) I am thankful for grocery pickup. I can schedule a pickup time at the beginning of nap time so the kids fall asleep in the car and stay asleep while I unload everything.
.) I am thankful for fun size candy. I don’t have to fully commit to the guilt of eating a full-size candy bar, but you know darn well that I’m going to eat the equivalent of one!
.) I am thankful for YouTube. I can find music for living room dance parties, educational videos for the kids, and catch up on the best gender-reveal fails.
.) I am thankful for the hour of really deep sleep that I get per night in between when I actually go to bed, and when one or both children end up in bed with us.
