“Crossing the Line,” by Ellen Valladares

I had the pleasure of receiving a digital copy of “Crossing the Line” in exchange for an honest review. It is an honor to be part of the Women On Writing Blog Tour to promote this fresh new book!

I enjoy reading a variety of genres, including historical fiction, memoirs, and mysteries, but I will always have a soft spot for some entertaining Young Adult literature. Sometimes those fun little reads are just what I need!

Ellen Valladares’s new book, Crossing the Line, fit the bill for a compelling, fun novel to take in over the weekend. I enjoyed the supernatural element of the book as it helped give an interesting dimension to the story.

The story line revolves around Laura, a popular, beautiful cheerleader, who was killed thirty years ago. Her death was a tragic event that shocked the whole town. Her family and friends were devastated by the loss.

Through a series of supernatural events, she befriends Rebecca, a high school girl in the present time. Rebecca is skeptical at first of her connection with the spirit of Laura, but as their stories intertwine, Rebecca realizes just how “real” Laura is. Rebecca helps Laura learn more details surrounding her death, while Laura helps Rebecca to reach outside of her comfort zone to prevent another devastating tragedy.

Laura has been training in the afterlife to help the living, and this assignment puts her skills and her determination to the test.

If you like YA books along the same style as The Lovely Bones , you will definitely enjoy Crossing the Line.  I’m looking forward to seeing what else Ellen Valladares writes! I read this book quickly over one weekend because it was so interesting!
